Advice for consumers

This game has received a PEGI 16 because it features use of strong language. Not suitable for persons under 16 years of age.

Brief outline of the game

Comedy adventure game in which players join with up to three friends, in a four player co-op, and battle their way through the snow-piled town of South Park on a quest to save the world and enjoy a day without school.

Content specific issues

Dialogue includes frequent use of strong language ('fuck'), as well as milder terms, including 'shit', 'pussy', 'asshole', 'bastard', 'bitch', 'piss' and 'dick'. There is also use of discriminatory terms, including the word 'gaylord' and a slogan on a T-shirt which says "Pray the gay away”.

Other issues

The game also features scenes of moderate violence. Physical reactions are unrealistic, with flashing effects on impacts and damage indicated using numbers. Once a character's life meter is exhausted, they lie on the ground. There is no sight of wounds, although some blood is shown. Cinematic scenes include sight of townspeople who have frozen to death, although the images are in the usual simple animated style of South Park. The game also includes some verbal sexual references, non-sexual nudity, and references to alcohol and drugs.

Not suitable for persons under 18 years of age.

Brief outline of the game

From the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, comes South Park: The Fractured but Whole, a sequel to 2014's South Park: The Stick of Truth.

Content specific issues

This game contains infrequent depictions of gross violence towards human-like characters. Some scenes show characters being decapitated and dismembered with very strong blood and gore effects. This game also features infrequent depictions of violence against defenceless human-like characters. This violence takes place against characters who are restrained and not able to escape. The violence that takes place in these scenes also feature strong blood and gore effects. This game also contains frequent use of sexual expletives, the word “fuck” and its derivatives are found throughout, and the word “cunt” can also be found in the dialogue.

Other issues

One of the major components of this well-established series is the way in which it subverts and satirises modern American social mores and issues. This game is no exception and one aspect of the game play centres around the contemporary issue of police brutality towards African-Americans. The game offers a character creation facility which allows the player to create darker-skinned characters which will result in the police acting with increased hostility towards and even attacking such characters. There are further references such as a mission in which the player enters a police station and sees the cells filled with African-Americans and the police using racial slurs. Some players may find this element within the game distasteful or even offensive.
