PEGI Changes Rating Advice for Roblox

Earlier this month, PEGI decided to change the age rating for Roblox. As of now, Roblox is considered as a platform with diverse content rather than an individual game product. As a result, the PEGI 7 age rating was replaced by the Parental Guidance label (an icon displaying an exclamation mark, always accompanied by the ‘parental guidance recommended’ text descriptor). Such a change is rather unusual for PEGI, but given the large variety of user-generated content that is available in Roblox, we feel this is a more suitable solution, especially since Roblox has also introduced ‘Experience Guidelines’, an internal system that provides age recommendations and content descriptors for individual games in Roblox, alongside other parental control options.

Where can you find this Parental Guidance label?

Video games must always display an age rating, but digital storefronts (for mobile phones, consoles or pc) also offer other types of apps. Not all of these have predefined content that can be classified and examined beforehand. Certain apps function as platforms and offer a broad, variable selection of content (e.g. Netflix or Spotify). For these apps, we use the parental guidance icon, alerting parents that while age-appropriate content may be available, the platform may also offer access to content that is not appropriate for children.
