Advice for consumers

This game has received a PEGI 18 which restricts availability to ADULTS ONLY and is not suitable for anyone below this age. This rating has been given due to violence against vulnerable and defenceless characters, motiveless killing of innocent characters, graphic violence, and use of strong language. Not suitable for persons under 18 years of age.

Brief outline of the game

Action adventure game, which is a remake of the first game in the 'Mafia' series, “Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven”, originally released in 2002. The game is set in a recreated 1930s cityscape, in which the player's character becomes involved with the Mafia.

Content specific issues

Violence is a strong component of the gameplay, with the player witnessing and engaging in a wide variety of violent acts. These run from beating people to death with baseball bats and tyre irons to gun fights with enemy families. Examples of the strongest violence include a scene in which a man, who is hanging by his wrists, is beaten for information before being executed, and a scene in which mobsters open fire on a restaurant full of innocent diners, killing them all before destroying the place with explosives. Strong language occurs throughout, including 'motherfucker' and 'fuck'. There is also milder bad language, including 'bitch', 'dick' and 'shit'.

Other issues

This game offers players the opportunity to purchase in-game items in the form of 'Mafia 2' and 'Mafia 3', which some parents or carers may want to be aware of. Parents, carers or other responsible adults should check to see what is being offered before making any purchase on behalf of a child. It should be noted that the game can still be played without the need to purchase such items.
