Advice for consumers

This game is rated PEGI 18 which restricts availability to ADULTS ONLY and is not suitable for anyone below this age. This rating has been given due to frequent strong violence and strong language.

Brief outline of the game

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a story-driven, open world game, following professional monster slayer, Geralt of Rivia. In Hearts of Stone, Geralt travels to No Man’s Land, lured by a bounty on a sewer monster, but he soon becomes entangled in a much larger mystery.

Content specific issues

Both the base game and DLC campaign feature frequent gory violence. Decapitation, disembowelment and bisection are featured as a normal part of gameplay. Gross violence also features prominently in cut scenes; for instance, people are burnt at the stake in one, while another shows a man’s head hanging off his neck by a shred of skin. The game also features frequent use of the word ‘fuck’.

Advice for consumers

This game was rated PEGI 18 for frequent strong and gory violence, violence towards vulnerable and defenceless persons and strong language. Not suitable for persons under 18 years of age.

Brief outline of the game

Story-driven, open world game, following Geralt of Rivia, a ‘witcher’ on the trail of his one-time ward, Ciri, who is threatened by the merciless Wild Hunt.

Content specific issues

The game features very frequent gory violence. As matter of course, Geralt is able to dismember, decapitate, disembowel and cut his enemies in half during gameplay combat. Other scenes of gore include, but are not limited to, a raven burrowing into a man’s eye socket and bursting from the back of his shattered skull, a man’s face melting and sizzling after being struck by a fire spell, men being gored by bears and more scenes of decapitation. Violence against vulnerable and defenceless persons includes people being bound to and burnt at the stake, with graphic detail, and a baby being thrown in a hot oven – though it is later seen to be unharmed. The word ‘fuck’ is used frequently and ‘cunt’ is used several times.

Other issues

Geralt is featured in sex scenes with several different women; the couples’ genitals are not visible during intercourse, though there are other moments of full nudity. There are several instances where sexual violence is graphically implied. In one scene, dead women are strewn around a bedroom, some of them naked. In another, a dead woman is found propped up on her bed, naked and with a bloody wound down her throat.
