Advice for consumers

This game has received a PEGI 18 which restricts availability to ADULTS ONLY and is not suitable for anyone below this age. This rating has been given because it features graphic violence, violence against vulnerable and defenceless characters, motiveless killing of innocent characters and use of strong language. Not suitable for persons below 18 years of age.

Brief outline of the game

Stealth game. In this prequel to the Hitman series, players take control of a highly-trained assassin, known only as Agent 47, as he travels around the world in pursuit of his targets.

Content specific issues

It is possible to kill a large number of people at one time as Agent 47 shoots into crowds, who will begin to run away in panic or crouch on the floor with their hands on their heads. He can also ‘subdue’ people. This involves strangling them, as they struggle and kick their legs until they fall unconscious, after which he can snap their necks while they are incapable of running or defending themselves. There is also graphic violence in the game. Characters can be stabbed through their heads with a knife, knives can be thrown into their eyes and swords can be run through their throats. There is also the infrequent use of the sexual expletive ‘fuck’ and its derivatives.

Other issues

This game offers players the opportunity to purchase in-game items using an in-game store. For example, players can buy a pack of missions for the game, which some parents or carers may want to be aware of. Parents, carers or other responsible adults should check to see what is being offered before making any purchase on behalf of a child. It should be noted that the game can still be played without the need to purchase such items.

Together with her new friend and fellow maid, a timid violinist named Linn, Jen slowly becomes aware of the manor's unsettling history

Content specific issues

The gameplay violence is on the whole realistic looking, with shootings and frenzied stabbings the most common form violence. This occasionally degenerates into gross violence when the antagonists use their weapons to kill the player’s character a young girl; an example is where the matronly character repeatedly stabs the player’s character in the head with her scissors and the disfigured character kills the player’s character by pushing the pointed end of his walking stick up into her throat and out of her mouth. The walking stick also has a sharp edge and can be used to cause dismemberment. The game dialogue contains the frequent use of the sexual expletive fuck and its derivations.

Other issues

Storyline includes references to child abuse and incest.

Brief outline of the game

Borderlands The Pre-Sequel including DLC

Content specific issues

Violence consists mainly of your players shooting at human characters wearing post-apocalyptic clothing or futuristic armour, with a variety of guns. It’s fairly realistic with blood effects and corpses lying about. The worst of the violence happens when, at close range, you shoot at them causing them to explode and meaty chunks and indeterminate body parts go bouncing along the floor. Similarly when a human character is propelled into an industrial grinder and expelled from the spout as a large amount of blood and meaty chunks. There’s also a scene where for no apparent reason a large number of characters, in what appears to be a first aid station are set alight. The characters scream and wave their arms in an attempt to extinguish the flames. Sexual expletives have been bleeped out but it is pretty obvious what is being said thanks to the subtitles, including the words ‘fuck’ and ‘cunt’. Gambling exists in the form of slot machines commonly found in casinos.
