Brief outline of the game

Top down survival horror set in the late 1980’s Soviet Eastern Bloc. You are hunkered down in your house in the middle of a dark and impenetrable wood, where the trees aren’t the only things that are alive. During the day you must forage for supplies, bringing back as much as you can before night. As darkness falls, you must fortify your barricades and defend your home from attack from the plague-ridden inhabitants of the mysterious woods.

Content specific issues

Violent scenes include ‘The Stranger’ being tied to a chair and tortured for information by ‘The Doctor’, who beats him repeatedly until the chair breaks and he is knocked unconscious. ‘The Stranger’ is able to murder most other characters at random, including a vulnerable, elderly lady, and a defenceless, man who is on his knees, begging for you to leave him alone. Blood and some injuries are shown on the corpses that litter the woodland, with some able to split themselves into pieces and transform into horrific monsters. Strong language including the word ‘fuck’ and its derivatives can be heard throughout the game.

Brief outline of the game

Remastered version of a role-playing game released in 2005. You play as The Bard, a selfish rogue, weary of pointless sub-quests and rat-infested cellars. Using your sword and songs you summon allies and fight off foes while endlessly hunting for more coins and treasure.

Content specific issues

The game is played in third person view, with the camera following The Bard on his quests. When he encounters an enemy, he plays a tune on his lute to summon a creature to assist him. Then he, armed with whatever weapons he can find, and his creature repeatedly attack their enemies, dealing damage by numbers until the defeated character falls down in a puddle of blood and eventually melts away into the ground. Mild language includes the word ‘bastard’.

Brief outline of the game

Bringing ghostly horror to the South Pacific. Five friends set sail on a holiday diving trip. With a rumoured WWII wreck to find, and plenty of on-deck partying to be had, our group get ready for what should be the dive trip of a lifetime. As the day unfolds, and a storm rolls in, their trip soon changes into something much more sinister.

Violence in the game is realistic looking both from that caused by another character such as shooting and stabbing as well as injury and death caused by environmental elements such as falling from a great height and impacting a sharp object. The horror/survival atmospheric effects adds to the gravity of the violence. There is the infrequent use of the sexual expletive ‘fuck’, and ‘fucking’.

Cut scenes in the game provide the rationale for the age rating, in one example an Ogre is seen holding a human character by his leg, humans are treated as food by Ogres and consequently this character is devoured by the Ogre. This is accompanied by screams from the victim and each bite produces blood splatters. However, the event is not realistic, and it is mostly masked by the Ogre’s very large hand.

Violence in the game is very mild, when a character is attacked it will grunt in response to being hit and will lose a certain amount of health, there is however no associated physical reaction to the violence. As it takes more damage a character will drop to one knee and wait to be revived by a companion but should the damage caused be sufficient the character will turn black and disappear.
